    He was born in Warsaw, Poland and made his way to England and joined 304 Squadron in January 1942 where he served until his Wellington bomber was shot down near Kassel whilst bombing Essen Germany on the night of 10th/11th April 1942.    
        
    He was taken prisoner and placed in Stalag 8b at Lamsdorf, Germany (now Laminowice Poland and later transferred to Stalag 357 "Kapernikus" near Torun, Poland which was moved to Fallingbostel Germany in late 1945. He was released by the British on 4th May 1945.
